Getting Started
PathwAI is an AI-powered college counseling platform for students and families. It combines a personalized AI counselor, college matching, essay coaching, deadline tracking, and a full academic profile — all in one place. Unlike generic AI tools, PathwAI knows your student's complete profile and uses that context in every recommendation.
PathwAI is built for students in grades 6–12 and their parents. It's never too early — families who start planning in middle school have a real strategic advantage. The platform works equally well for students just beginning to think about college and those deep in the application process.
After signing up, you'll be walked through a short onboarding flow to enter your student's basic information. From there, head to the Student Profile page to fill in academics, extracurriculars, personal background, and goals. The more complete the profile, the more accurate and personalized the AI guidance becomes. You can also import a transcript PDF — PathwAI will extract courses and profile fields automatically for you to review.
Go to Student Profile → Documents tab and click Upload Transcript. PathwAI will automatically parse the PDF and show you a preview of everything it found — profile fields and courses — with checkboxes so you can choose exactly what to apply. Nothing is written to your profile until you click Apply.

You can also use the Import Profile button to import from a questionnaire or other document.
Credits & Billing
Credits are the currency for AI-powered actions. Every plan includes a monthly credit allowance. Here's what each action costs:
  • Basic chat message — 2 credits
  • Essay feedback — 5 credits
  • Profile import (transcript) — 5 credits
  • Essay draft — 10 credits
  • Roadmap generation — 15 credits
The credit cost is always shown before you take an action. You can see your current balance in the sidebar at any time.
AI-powered features will be paused until you top up or your monthly allowance resets. All other features — your profile, college list, deadlines, and documents — remain fully accessible. You can purchase additional credits at any time using the Buy Credits button in the sidebar.
Monthly plan credits do not roll over — they reset at the start of each billing cycle. However, any credits you purchase separately (top-ups) do not expire and will always be used first.
All plans include full access to every PathwAI feature. The difference is in monthly credit volume — higher plans include more credits per month, which means more AI chat messages, essay drafts, and roadmap generations without needing to top up. Visit Settings → Billing to compare plans and upgrade.
Go to Settings → Billing. From there you can upgrade your plan, switch to a different tier, or cancel. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep full access until then. We don't do partial refunds for unused time.
Features
The AI Counselor is a conversational advisor that knows your student's full profile — grades, activities, test scores, college list, goals, and financial situation. You can ask it anything: "What should my student focus on this summer?", "Is this GPA competitive for UC Berkeley?", "How do I write about this extracurricular?". It gives personalized, context-aware answers, not generic advice.
Admission probabilities are estimates based on your student's academic profile compared to historical admitted-student data from each college. They are directionally useful — a "Reach" school is meaningfully harder than a "Target" — but they are not predictions. College admissions involves factors (essays, recommendations, interviews, institutional priorities) that no tool can fully model. Use them as a planning guide, not a guarantee.
Search from a database of nearly 2,000 colleges and add any school to your list. Each school is automatically categorized as a Reach, Target, or Likely based on your student's profile. You can also ask the AI Counselor to suggest schools that match your preferences — location, size, cost, major availability, and more.
The Roadmap generates a personalized, month-by-month action plan for your student based on their current grade level, profile, and target colleges. It covers academics, extracurriculars, test prep, application milestones, and more. You can regenerate it at any time as your profile evolves.
In the Essays section, you can create essay workspaces for each prompt. The AI can generate a draft based on your student's profile and voice, or you can paste your own draft and request detailed feedback. All essays are saved automatically and can be exported when ready.
The Deadlines page has a calendar and list view of all your upcoming tasks. You can add custom deadlines for applications, scholarships, financial aid, test registrations, or anything else. Color-coded categories help you see what's coming up at a glance.
You can upload PDFs, Word documents (.doc, .docx), plain text files (.txt), and images (JPG, PNG). The maximum file size is 10 MB per file. Transcript PDF parsing currently works with PDF format only.
PathwAI is designed to give every family access to the kind of strategic guidance that traditionally required hiring an expensive private counselor. For most families, it provides everything they need. That said, students with unusual circumstances — athletic recruitment, elite school targeting, or complex personal situations — may also benefit from working with a human counselor alongside PathwAI.
Privacy & Account
Yes. Your student's data is stored securely with row-level access controls — only your account can read or modify it. We do not sell your data to colleges, test prep companies, or anyone else. AI processing happens server-side; no personally identifiable information is sent to third parties beyond what's needed to generate a response. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Each subscription covers one student profile. Each student gets their own personalized roadmap, college list, essay workspace, and AI counselor history. To manage a second student, create a separate account. Multi-student management from a single account is on our roadmap.
Focus on these high-impact fields first:
  • GPA and GPA scale — used in every college match calculation
  • Current school and grade — sets the context for all AI advice
  • At least one course, test score, and activity — required for a complete academic picture
  • Intended major and career goals — personalizes roadmap and essay suggestions
  • Personal bio — used by the essay coach and AI counselor
The "What's Missing" panel on the profile page shows exactly what's left.
You can request account deletion by emailing support@pathwai.app. We'll permanently delete your account and all associated student data within 7 business days. This action cannot be undone.
